Remembering Lolo by A M Ticobay Magnaye, Grand Daughter
26 July 2013
Here is a photo of me and my lolo during my first birthday. My lolo and I would always celebrate our birthdays together at a Japanese restaurant since we're both born on March. We always get salmon sashimi and he'd eat it with tons of wasabi to pair with a bottle of pale pilsen. I also got my left-handedness from him, which makes us the only "kaliwete" in the family.
My lolo always told me to study hard every time we'd visit him and lola at their place during weekends. Even if he had a hard time hearing, we'd still understand each other and have a good conversation.
We're 60 years apart, and last year when he turned 80, he told me he hoped for staying a few more years so he could see me graduate in college. Sad to say, he was only able to stay during my graduating year. Well, close enough.
I'm glad to have a grandfather like him, and I'm truly inspired by his achievements. I want to travel all over the world just like what he had done. Even if he won't be around anymore, I'll still continue to make him proud, for the greater glory of grandpa.
Cheers to you, Lolo. I'll miss you. Enjoy the unlimited sushi and beer wherever you are! I love you
